How We Live Now with Katherine May

How should we live in this world when so much is changed?

Katherine May, author of Enchantment, Wintering and the Electricity of Every Living Thing, asks those most intimate with the effects of these transformations: what now?

Pathways for a post-everything world

How do we stay soft in a world determined to harden? How can we bear witness to suffering without being dragged into despair? How do we ride the waves of our anger, sorrow and exhaustion, and still find space for wonder, hope and joy? How can we possibly help?

In a series of frank, thoughtful and deeply personal conversations, How We Live Now explores the cultural, social and spiritual mindset for this long moment.

Katherine’s podcast was previously called The Wintering Sessions.

Season 2

How Can We Re-Enchant This World?

This season, Katherine seeks a range of perspectives on the question of our relationship to the magic, myth and meaning of the world around us. Have we really lost our sense of enchantment, and can we regain it? Do we need to make it anew, or should we look back to traditional ways of making sense of our experience on this earth? And does enchantment reside in us, or is it held elsewhere, in systems that are more intelligent that we fully understand?

Katherine poses this question to some of the world’s most important thinkers in this field: political journalist Ece Temelkuran, radical Buddhist Lama Rod Owens, digital native Emma Gannon, gathering expert Priya Parker, spiritual teacher Simran Jeet Singh and ecological writer Jay Griffiths. Each of them offered something thoughtful and fresh, and each of them changed the way Katherine thinks about this current - often divided - life.

The most important, underrated podcast
“I’m fairly certain Katherine May is my platonic soulmate…I’m going through a period of wintering myself, and the best part of my days of late is my hour long walk each morning listening to this podcast. It’s become a beautiful ritual during a very dark period and I’m just so grateful it exists. More episodes, please. Many, many more.”

Much needed conversations & honesty
"
I felt myself craving the topics and talks of Katherine May’s podcasts. With every fibre in my being, a deep need on how to connect and come together better. It filled every spare minute I had when I was away from my little boy, an anchor to try and make sense of the world and help navigate it with him. What a treasure and brave person you are Katherine as you face questions most of us don’t want to ask and think about things we don’t have the time and energy for. Thank you for sharing and writing and being brave.”
